A-LOOP - TECHIN DOWN THE HOUSE

Technical house?
Hmm. Maybe not. The genre of 'Tech-House' has grown as of late and, seeing has it's been around for quite some time now, it's branched a lot of sub genres. I decided in my latest promo mix to flesh out the different aspects of this now hugely popular genre

Why? Well, tech-house has been around for years obviously, but has evolved into something more mainstream as of late. The large, organic soul full, almost disco born drums of house are the biggest feature of most tech-house tracks, but with plenty of techno elements too - slow stepped bass lines and tracks steeped in high pads and effects. But these guidelines vary from sub-genres. In my latest mix I start off with some mellow techno with some house roots, and build it up into some club driven stuff with some tropical cuts and eventually into something different completely. Whilst not everything in the mix would be strictly labeled 'tech-house' you'll find they all tie each together and bring you on an audio journey!

Last tuesday I was invited on air to play a few of my tracks and a mix on Near 90fm's Club Cheol, along with I HAVE TURTLE DJs. Unfortunately due to time constraints the lovely Nina couldn't play my whole mix.

I quite like this mix, its got a nice range of tech-house, house and bouncey fidget tracks, also keep and ear out for a LORCAN MAK exclusive at the end of the mix. ELECTRIC PICNIC HIGHLIGHTS!!

Yo Guys

Just goin to pop up a few words on my thoughts over the amazing weekend at Electric Picnic. Well if your from Ireland you should know the Picnic is the best festival in Ireland no matter what else you have heard :P. The highlights for me were definitely 2 MANY DJS with there amazing radio soulwax show with the visual display was one to have not missed down there.Basement Jaxx on the Sunday was also another good time gig to have seen although i was completely wrecked by then and couldnt stand anymore ha! Another act that did it for me was Aeroplane these 2 french lads played an amazing DJ set with nice clean mixing and great choice of tracks which I personally would have lovent to got that tracklist. Other acts that i got to see that I enjoyed were Explosions in the Sky , Royskopp, SMD, Fake Blood, Streetlife DJs and Switch too. If i forgot anyone im sorry i was probably to fucked off my face to remember ha!.

This is my first post here on the Mind the Gap blog, and I'm buzzed to be on here! I've seen some great contributions from some great artists, both Irish and International here (Jay Robinsons' stuff was blistering!), this blog is gonna be hot!!

So this first post will be about me (mostly!). I've been DJ'ing for quite some time in Dublin now, and I've played various styles under various names. I've supported the likes of Don Rimini, A1 Bassline, Felix Cartal, Bloody Beetroots, Electric Soulside. However now I've gotten a chance to focus on the music I love, and thus I've started this solo production project: A-LOOP

The music I love is all things deep and house. My sets are filled with tech-house grooves and bouncy fidget-house drums. If it's dark and gets your neck groovin', I'll play it. Some of my favorite artists at the moment are... Style of Eye, NOOB, Laidback Luke, Santiago + Bushido, Kyle Watson, Mightyfools, Schenk and Bingo Players...

Okay, so I'm rambling! Here's what you guys came for, some FREEBIES!!

A-LOOP - Towers

This is my 1st jab at production, and for this I've made an ambient, chuggy tech-fest track with a Balearic influence. Something to be played early in the night to get a dance floor warmed up. Plenty of timbre and organic drums in here.

A-LOOP - Mighty Eats

This is my second track and I've kept to a tech-house theme. A warm bassline rings with a whistle high-line to get the track moving, but soon turns into a fidgety surprise. Again my love of percussion is obvious here.

This is my take on the 'early doors' mix. Too many DJ's are banging it out at 130bpm with Bloody Beetroots and Crookers and Deadmau5 and you haven't even bought your 1st drink yet! You need to let the dance floor evolve, and give those people a chance to get their dancin' shoes on! I got a chance to support ELECTRIC SOULSIDE at the first Warm the Gap party in WAX, here's some of the tracks I got to play...

Ciaran Martin(I Have Turtle djs) is a 17(18 when he djs) year old minimal tech house producer with lots of potential to become known in the near future. He has only been producing less than a year and already has produced many of his own tracks(which you can see here on the I HAVE TURTLE myspace) and djed all over the Dublin Club scene.

ZEMARIA

Zemaria In The South William - Dublin

For the past week the brazilian electro-rock band Zemaria have been playing gigs in Dublin and around Ireland. Their gig on Friday in The South William really showed how much potential these guys have, giving off so much energy while playing (it must be all the Brazilian heat!), Zemaria didn't fail to impress. Watching them set up in the corner of the pub while everyone was sitting around having a few quiet drinks, you wouldn't of thought they would have made the impact that they did. The lads successfully managed to bring everyone up dancing in front of them with their live up-beat electro songs. Throwing together a mix of styles, varying from Brazilian funk -soul to electro-rock Daft Punk classics, they sure won't ever be just that 'other band'.

Their experience and talent are beyond that and I'm sure Zemaria will get their recognition deserved before going home. They're still playing here for another week and after that they head off on the rest of their European tour, luckily we'll get another chance to catch them as they are stopping off again in Ireland for Electric Picnic and a few other gigs around the country.
